When God Calls You to Rest: A Message for Christian Educators

As another school year comes to a close, many Christian educators find themselves physically exhausted, emotionally drained, and spiritually running on empty.

After months of lesson planning, grading papers, praying with students, comforting anxious children, encouraging struggling families, and managing countless responsibilities, the end of the school year can feel less like crossing a finish line and more like collapsing over it.

If that's how you're feeling today, you're not alone.

One of the greatest misconceptions in education is that rest is something we earn only after we've worked ourselves to exhaustion. Yet Scripture paints a different picture.

Throughout the Bible, God established rhythms of work and rest. Even Jesus, amid the demands of ministry, stepped away to pray, seek solitude, and renew His strength. If the Savior of the world made time to rest, surely we can recognize our own need for it.

Christian education is more than a profession—it is a calling. Every lesson taught with patience, every prayer whispered over a student, every act of kindness shown in the classroom becomes part of God's work in the lives of young people.

Sometimes we don't immediately see the fruit of our labor.

The student who struggled all year may one day become a confident leader.

The child who quietly listened during morning devotions may remember those words years from now.

The seeds we plant today often bloom in seasons we may never witness.

As summer begins, give yourself permission to rest without guilt.

Spend time with your family.

Reconnect with God's Word without preparing a lesson around it.

Laugh more.

Sleep well.

Take walks.

Enjoy His creation.

Allow Him to restore your heart.

Isaiah 40:31 reminds us:

"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

May this summer be more than a break from school.

May it become a season of renewal, reminding you that while your work is important, your identity is found not in what you accomplish, but in whose you are.

Thank you for faithfully serving God's children this year.

Well done.
